Georgia “Sally” Shantz November 12, 1928 – March 05, 2019 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Georgia Mary Shantz “Sally”, age 90, of Comins, Michigan, passed away on the morning of March 5, 2019. She was born on November 12, 1928, in Comins to George Bailey and Martha (Fultz) Bailey. She was married to Merlin Shantz on May 29, 1947 in Comins Mennonite Church where she was a lifelong member.

They lived for a time in the Fairview area, and moved to Ocqueoc where Shantz Construction built many cottages and other buildings in the Hammond bay area. After their four children were grown, they spent part of each year in North Port, Florida, where they were also active in building projects. Sally was an avid reader; she also enjoyed sewing, and quilting.

She said she hated cooking but she never let anyone in her kitchen! She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Merlin Shantz, her children Rodney (Sandra), Randy (Bob), Susan (Tim), and David (Denise), grandchildren Corina Akers, Craig Shantz, Allison Shantz, and Sally Jenks, great-grandchildren Gavin McCain and Cole Akers along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sisters Dorothy (Doug) Winton and Shirley (Emerson) Larrison, and her brother Roy “Buck” (Darlene) Bailey.

In accordance with Sally’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation on Saturday, March 9, 2019, from 10 AM until 11:00 with Memorial Services to follow, at Fairview Mennonite Church, Pastor Dave Price officiating with a lunch to follow.
