Georgie Lenora Edge, 102, a former longtime Baker City resident, passed away on March 7, 2019, in Chico, California with her family by her side. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2019, at 10:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Baker City, Oregon. Georgie was born on July 10, 1916, at Touchet, Washington, to Henry H. Hanson and Lucinda Hall Hanson.

She was the youngest of 12 children — nine boys and three girls. As a girl, she played basketball for Touchet High, played the saxophone, and attended many baseball games to watch her nine brothers play on their own traveling baseball team. She graduated from Touchet High School, and a year later, met her future husband, Marvin Edge of Clarkston, Washington, on a blind date.

They were married on Dec. 1, 1935, at Walla Walla, Washington. Georgie and Marvin lived most of their married life in Baker City, where they raised two daughters and Marvin was in the automobile business.

Georgie was very active in the community during those years. She was a Girl Scout leader, a member of Eastern Star and P.E.O. Sisterhood and a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church. In 2011, Georgie moved with her daughter, Jacquie, and son-in-law, Don, to Chico to be near her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was able to enjoy activities with her family, and remained an avid card player until well into her 100th year, never turning down an invitation to play bridge! Georgie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was the pillar of the family and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Jacquie Howlett and her husband, Don, of Chico; five grandchildren and their spouses, Russ Biswell and Tonja Chi of Campbell, California, Steve and Cyndy Howlett of Cameron Park, California, Gretchen DeAndre and Dennis DeAndre of Palo Alto, California, John Howlett and Michelle Zevely of Chico, and Richard Biswell of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; nine great-grandchildren: Greta and Livia Biswell, Matthew and Sarah Howlett, Kate, Will and Lily DeAndre, and MacKenzie Zevely-Howlett and Jack Howlett. She was preceded in death by her parents; 11 siblings; her husband of 63 years, Marvin; and her daughter, Marsha Biswell.
