Gerald W. “Jerry” Schneider, 85, of Wapakoneta, passed away the morning of Sunday, December 23, 2018 at his residence. He was born on January 29, 1933 in Dunkirk, OH to Carl M. & Irene I. (Werling) Schneider who preceded him in death. His first wife, Margot Barthel preceded him in death.

On August 22, 2009, he took his vows with Virginia Hardesty and she survives in Wapakoneta. Survivors include his children; Barbara (Roger) Stueve of Minster, Bruce A. Schneider of Sidney, Brian W. (Michelle) Schneider of Sidney; four grandchildren; Ryan Stueve, Christian (Laura) Stueve, Alexa (Brad) Evans and Abby Schneider. Along with great granddaughters, Aubree and Emma Evans, and Claire and Lucy Stueve.

Siblings Jean Couchot of Newport, Shirley (Marvin) Fogt of N.C., and Richard A. Schneider of Denver, CO. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Agnes (Paul) Shook. Jerry attended Holy Angels School in Sidney.

He worked at Copeland for two years and then went to C.D. Beck where he built buses. He spent four years in the U.S. Air Force where he served as an aircraft and engine mechanic, achieving the rank of AIC during the Korean War. He spent three years in Europe, in the 7167 Special Air Missions.

In May of 1956, he was discharged from Strategic Air Command, Platsburg, NY. He then worked at Monarch Machine and Tool in Sidney for one year, and then he went to work for Champion Paper as a supervisor for 26 years. He retired from Beckitt Benckiser after 17 ½ years as a supervisor.

He was a life member of the American Legion Post 217, Sidney, V.F.W. Post 4239 and Post 8445, and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of the Sidney Senior Citizens where he enjoyed playing shuffleboard. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 28, 2018 at Schlosser Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Wapakoneta with Rev.

Sean Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Pearl Cemetery, Swanders with military rites being performed by the V.F.W. Post 8445. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Uniopolis Methodist Church, American Legion Post 217, Sidney or to V.F.W. Post 8445, Wapakoneta.
