“Gerry” passed away unexpectedly on February 19, 2019 at the age of 80. Gerry was preceded in death by her parents George and Elizabeth Sved as well as her brother, Pat Sved. She will be greatly missed by her children Scott Leslie and Laura Leslie, both of Grand Rapids, as well as her sister Margaret (John) Gatz, her niece and nephews John (Elizabeth) Gatz, Kristin (Scott) Strutton and Jeff (Gretchen) Gatz and many friends.

Born in Detroit, Gerry grew up in Royal Oak and moved to Grand Rapids after college. Gerry graduated from Michigan State University in 1960 with a degree in Mathematics. A lifelong State fan, she loved football and basketball and was a season football ticket holder for many years.

She also loved traveling with friends and family – including trips to China, France and England – spending time at Lake Michigan in Grand Haven and was a voracious book reader. She was also a lover of movies and Broadway plays and was up for any new adventure. Gerry worked for Kent County Treasurer’s office for many years and also worked for IBM, Grand Rapids and East Grand Rapids Public Schools.

Funeral services will be held 3pm Monday at the Metcalf & Jonkhoff Chapel. The family will greet friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday from 1pm to 3pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to: American Stroke Association or a charity of your choice.
