Germaine F. Hugill, 91, long-time Libby resident, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Ray Hickey Hospice in Vancouver, WA. She was born June 18, 1927 in Libby, MT to Bernhard and Marguerite (Kosky) Schlumm. Germaine was raised in Libby and attended the Libby schools, graduating Salutatorian in 1945.

In high school, she was involved in many activities, but in particular, drama, orchestra, band and chorus. She had private cello and piano lessons from the age of 8 through college. She especially liked accompanying chorus and small singing groups on the piano.

After high school graduation, Germaine attended Holy Names College in Spokane, WA. At first a music major, she chose instead to become a primary school teacher. She taught in the Libby school system her entire teaching career, teaching the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades.

In 1949, Germaine married Glenn R. Hugill, her high school sweetheart. To this union were born five children. They had celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1999.

After retirement, they toured Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Scandinavia. A life time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Germaine served for over 60 years in the music ministry at St. Joseph Catholic Church as choir director, liturgist, pianist and organist. Germaine was also a member of Lambda and Alpha Theta Chapters of Delta Kappa Gamma.

She was a member of Kootenai Teachers for Education, Senior Citizens and the Red Hats. A supporter of Heritage Council, for several years, Germaine played piano for children musical productions under the direction of Mary Sullivan Reckin. Germaine was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn; son, David; her parents; and brother, Maurice.

Survivors include her daughter Kathryn Sokoloski of Burien, WA; sons Kent Hugill of Fairfax, VA and Stuart Hugill (Ragheda) of Troutdale, OR; daughter Sheila Margado (Steve) of Vancouver, WA; grandchildren Paul and Kayoko Phillips of Dallas TX; Amber Sokoloski of Burien, WA; Dana Hugill of New York City; Laura Hugill of Wayne PA; Kevin and Ryan Margado of Vancouver, WA; and Kira Swenson of Vancouver, WA. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 2, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Libby. Visitation will be from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 1, 2018 with Rosary at 7:00 p.m., at Schnackenberg Funeral Home Chapel in Libby.
