Age, 84 of Plainfield formerly of Manhattan IL passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Rock Run Senior Living in Joliet, IL. Gilbert was born December 31, 1933 in Joliet IL to the late Muriel (nee Cecil) and Gilbert E. Fox Sr. It’s not the destination, it’s the journey. (It’s the journey to your final destination) Gilbert worked for Cliff Berglund in Plainfield IL from 1960-1996 and was known as the “old” tool and die maker, a tool room manager and a salesman.

Prior… Read More » to 1960 he worked for Phillips Control in Joliet. He was a member of the Peotone Board of Education. He was a very involved member of Wilton Center Federated Church, also a former choir director and an accomplished organist of 70 years.

He was a civic activist and airport fighter, member of the NRA and donated blood every 3 months for many years and was also a breakfast club member for 21 years. He was an avid reader, loved his Harley Davidson motorcycle and fishing with the guys. He is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Nancy Fox; his children Gilbert “Ed” III (Helen); Joan (Elwynne Welsh); Jim (Debbie); Lori (David Brusich); Paul (Roxann); Larry (Kris); John (Tammy); Christine (Randy Harper); Susan (Brian Vaira); Edward Hawes (Mary); his brother Ivor; his sister Bette Gibson; his sisters-in-law’s Ruth Schuler (Steve) (late Tom); Caroline Fox (late Don); Twenty one grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Harley.

Preceded by his first wife Dorothy Mae Fuerst; and his brothers Tom, Charles and Don. Visitation for Gilbert will be Friday, April 13, 2018 from 4-8p.m. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S. State St. (Rt. 52), Manhattan.

Family and friends will meet on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Wilton Center Federated Church, 14104 W. Joliet Road, Manhattan for funeral service with Pastor Rich DeFries officiating at 10:30 a.m. Gilbert will lie-in-state at church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be at Wilton Cemetery in Wilton Center. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial donations can be made to the Wilton Center Federated Church, 14104 W.
