Obituary for Gladys K. Richey Gladys Kathryn Richey, 93, of Mason City, IA died Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home. A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd St SE, Mason City. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church, 2502 S Jefferson Ave.

, Mason City with Reverend Matthew Muters Officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Gladys was born on July 12, 1925 at home in rural Thompson, IA to Tjark and Katie Mae (Walkner) Hugo.

She was the oldest of 8 children. On October 12, 1945 she was united in marriage to Jay V Richey at Wesley United Methodist Church. To their union, three sons were born, Jay W and twins Terry and Perry.

Gladys worked for Deckers/Armour as an office assistant for many years and also did housekeeping for several families. She became a homemaker once her children were born and was a devoted mother; especially caring for her special needs son Terry. Gladys took pride in the family home and made sure it was always clean and neat.

She liked to decorate on the inside and maintain a beautiful yard outside with her tulips. On the weekends she enjoyed going to yard sales and visiting with people. Gladys collected red cardinals, which were her favorite.

Her family came first and foremost and she looked forward to 4th of July picnics every year, family Christmas and a good card game of 31. Gladys loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In the last several years of her life, Gladys lived at Cornerstone Assisted Living and the past 9 months at Good Shepherd Nursing Home, her family would like to thank all of the staff and also thank Gladys’s roommate, Loretta Martin, for her friendship.

Those left to cherish her memory include children, Jay (Marilyn) Richey of Mason City, Terry Richey of Eagle Grove, Ia. and Perry (Darla) Richey of Kensett Ia. Grandchildren: Amy (Seth) Bell of Mason City, Cindy (Craig) Carlson of Mason City, Bryan (Ashley Wadleigh) Richey of Round Lake Beach, IL, Eric (Amy) Richey of Gretna, NE and Adam (Jessica) Richey of Kensett; great-grandchildren, Lakotah Oelkers, Jase, Reese and Audra Richey, Adriana, Kynlee, Zayden and Paislee Richey, sister, Nancy (Jim) Cribbs of Sun City, AZ; brother, John (Zoe) Hugo of Mason City; sister-in-law, Birdye Van Hyfte of Lufkin,TX.

sister-in-law Carita Hugo of Mason City and many cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Richey in December of 1998; parents, Tjark and Katie Mae Hugo; siblings, Hester Hugo, Mae “Tiny” Camper, Gunther Hugo, LeRoy “Bud” Hugo and Tjark “Babe” Hugo. In expression of sympathy, memorials may be sent to Good Shepherd Nursing Home for their telephone reassurance program and or Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Mason City.
