OBITUARY Gladys Marie Armstrong Baucom October 5, 1927 – September 20, 2018 Gladys Marie Armstrong Baucom, of Charlotte, North Carolina, was called home to her Heavenly Father on September 20, 2018, at Asbury Health and Rehabilitation Center. Mrs. Baucom was a native of Gaston County, born October 5, 1927, in Mount Holly, the youngest child of the late John Stevenson Armstrong and Addie Pearl Lee Armstrong. She graduated from Mt.
Holly High School in 1944 and from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1950. She retired from Mercy Hospital in 1988, after 38 years as a Registered Nurse. Gladys married Winfred Josiah Baucom of Charlotte in 1951.
They were married 49½ years before he was called to his eternal home on July 31, 2000. Gladys was an active member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church for many years, where she was a member of the Love Sunday School Class and the Christianaires Senior Choir. Mrs. Baucom is survived by two sons, Barry Winfred Baucom and wife, Patty Rodgers, of Crestview Hills, Kentucky, and Mark Timothy Baucom and wife, Judy, of Matthews, North Carolina; grandson, Jonathan Mark Baucom and wife, Alison, of Raleigh, North Carolina; granddaughter, Ashleigh Marie Baucom of Matthews, North Carolina; two great-grandsons, Anderson Josiah Baucom and Lewis Jon Baucom, both of Raleigh, North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband Winfred, Gladys was preceded in death by eight brothers and two sisters. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am Thursday, September 27th, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 7200 East WT Harris Boulevard, Charlotte, with a funeral service to follow at 11:00 am. The Reverend Clint Pressley and The Reverend John Harrill will officiate.
Interment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park. Special thanks to the caregivers at Asbury and Hospice & Palliative Care of Charlotte for the love and kindness shown to Gladys and her family during her last days.
