Obituary for Janice “Jan” Tyson-Clawson Janice “Jan” Tyson Clawson was born on September 14,1963 to the late Rufus Tyson and Rosa Scales Tyson. She graciously departed this life to be with the Lord on September 18, 2018. Jan grew up in the Grier Heights community and attended Mecklenburg County Schools.

She graduated from East Mecklenburg High School in 1981. She continued her studies at Belmont Abby College with a degree in Accounting. She worked at PACO Collections Agency and Piedmont Natural Gas/Duke Energy until her health failed.

Jan loved the Lord, her church, and was a faithful servant. She started her Christian journey at an early age at Grier Heights Presbyterian Church where she attended Sunday School, participated in the youth group and Girl Scouts. She earned the highest honor in Girl Scouting, First Class Cadet award (now called the Gold Award).

She continued her passion and love for her church and community throughout her adult life. At church, she served as the Church Secretary for over 35 years; Presbyterian Women’s Organization; Deacon Board; Girl Scout Leader and Boy Scout Troop Leader. She worked with the youth at church and in the community.

Jan always went beyond the call of duty in everything that she did, family, church, job and schools. She had a passion for helping others in need especially family, children and teens. Her dedication to all was tireless and she never complained about having too much to do.

“No” was not part of her vocabulary. She loved her son and grandchildren dearly and made sure they got the best opportunities for growth. Janice leaves to cherish her fond memories: a loving son, Kenneth Dawaine Clawson, sister Angela Tyson Daughtry, brother Tyler Tyson, grandchildren Kenneth, Malik, Desmond, Kendrick, Kennedy; great grandchild Kaydan; Aunts; Margaret Brown, Willie Crowder (Marshal), Laurie Scales, Renette Scales all of Charlotte, NC; Sara Scales (Jamaica, NY); Uncles; Sailor Tyson (Catherine), Robert Scales (Gladys) of Charlotte, Thomas Scales of Cambridge, Mass.
