Glenda Lou Laubon was born the last of six children to Lewis John and Fay Mildred Athey Laubon on May 12,1937, in Hastings, Nebraska, and passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2018, in Orem, Utah, from causes incident to age. Because of employment opportunities, she moved with her mother and stepfather (Richie Roe) to Provo, Utah, when she was eleven. She attended grade school in Charleston, Utah, and Sharon Elementary in Orem, Utah, and graduated from Faarer Junior High School and from Provo High School in 1955.

Glenda married Clifford Ray Ferguson on May 17,1956, and the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after Glenda’s baptism. Glenda served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a Primary Teacher, Relief Society Visiting Teacher, Cub Scout Leader and Young Women’s President, Counselor in the Stake Young Women’s Presidency and as Stake Young Women’s Athletic Director. She was an elementary school Room Mother and President of the Lincoln Junior High School PTA.

Glenda worked as a legal secretary for attorneys at Morgan and Payne and Leon Frazier until her children were born and she became a ‘Stay at home Mom’. The year her daughter married and her son went on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she went to work for the Utah County Government, starting as an ‘on-call’ office worker and retiring twenty years later as Utah County Public Works Administration Division Director. In 1988 she was honored as ‘Utah County Employee of the Month’ and then as “Utah County Employee of the Year’.

Glenda and Clifford loved to travel and they visited every state in the United States, every Canadian Territory and Province except two, Mexico, and various cruises. Glenda was an active member of the Orem Senior Friendship Center where she volunteered under the RSVP program for ten years. Glenda is survived by her husband Clifford of 62 years, her two children Kaye Lynn (Randall) Wilkinson of Palmyra, Utah, Russell “R” (Catherine) Ferguson, of West Jordan, Utah, five grandsons, Chris, Curtis, Chad Wilkinson and Bryce Ferguson, a granddaughter, Nicole Benson, two great granddaughters, Elizabeth and Chloe Wilkinson, and one sister Jean (Bernard) Beiriger, of Hastings, Nebraska.

Glenda was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Junior, Ronald, and Gerald Laubon, one sister, Donna Grothen, a grandson, Clinton Wilkinson, and a great-grandson, Kaden Wilkensen. There will be a Viewing Friday, November 2, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sundberg Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street, Orem, Utah, followed by a Graveside Service held at the Orem City Cemetery. Glenda did not ask for much during her lifetime, but now upon her passing, her one request is for everyone to give a smile and a kind word—you will be glad you did.
