Glenda’s Obituary Glenda Sue Atkins was born October 14, 1957, to Marilyn Sue (Wallace) Vermillion and Ollie Atkins in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her family relocated to Tucson, Arizona, when Glenda was a young girl before moving to Oklahoma in the early 1980s. Glenda made her earthly home in Weatherford, Oklahoma, where she lived until she departed to her heavenly home on March 4, 2019, having reached the age of 61 years, 4 months, and 21 days.

While in Arizona, Glenda attended school at Sunnyside high school and Pima Community College, studying Literature. Glenda was a history enthusiast and creative writer. She read many books and wrote her own short stories.

Glenda would complete writing assignments for her siblings Lee and Arloa, in which they would receive high marks for her work. Glenda enjoyed sharing memories of her time growing up in the desert before she moved to Oklahoma with her family. Glenda lived a simple life, loving the Lord and those around her.

She devoted herself to scripture- reading, memorizing and rewriting thousands of passages in her beautiful handwriting over the course of her life. She was fond of the book of John and all the older hymns. Two of her favorites were Amazing Grace and I Come to the Garden Alone.

She was a devoted member of the Grace Assembly of God church in Weatherford. She considered God her friend and wanted others to know that she was a friend of God. She told her sisters she was going to ask God if she could pet a lion when she got to Heaven.

Glenda was a caretaker. As the oldest of seven children, Glenda found a way to be both motherly and ornery toward her siblings, like the time she tried to feed Candy a cactus plant. However, her desire to care for others continued into her adult life.

She worked as an aide in nursing homes and as a live-in caretaker for her mother and several friends in the community. She also worked in housekeeping at the Mark Motel. Glenda enjoyed making gifts for people.

She was talented with crochet and plastic canvas, having been taught by her mother. Glenda was honored by her church family for crocheting a gift for every single member of her church. Glenda taught her sister Renata this talent in hopes of passing on a family tradition.

Glenda stored skeins of yarn in every available space in her home- yarn of every weight, color and finish, for whatever crafty inspiration she had next. Christmas was a favorite holiday just for the fact she was able to make gifts for those she loved. She had three fully decorated Christmas trees in her home-she loved to celebrate the birth of her Savior.

Glenda had a green thumb. Even though roses were a favorite, she loved growing plants of all types and from all climates. In one place she lived, she planted flowers and bushes all around the exterior of the property and acted as the unofficial groundskeeper to keep the place looking nice.

It did not seem to matter what the plant was – it would thrive under her care. Glenda appreciated quality conversation, especially sharing thoughts with her Mom while enjoying a good cup of coffee. She loved her dogs, especially Sassy and Pepper Jack, giving the latter a mention in the family Bible.

Glenda is survived by her siblings: Lee Atkins of Weatherford, Oklahoma; Arloa McClure of Tuscon, Arizona; Phyllis Moreland and husband Stan of Hinkley Minnesota; Candy Taylor of Weatherford, Oklahoma; Marjorie Andersson and husband Nic of Atlanta, Georgia; and Renata Davis and husband Jerod of Fay, Oklahoma. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and loving friends in the community. Glenda was preceded in death by her parents and niece, Leanna Nicole Ratton.
