Obituary of Granville Leroy Holston “Bozie” Granville Leroy “Bozie” Holston of Millsboro, DE passed away in the care of Atlantic Shores Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on June 28, 2018. He was 91 years old. He was born on August 2, 1926 to the late William and Sadie Holston in Lewes, DE.
Bozie was the last of five children, being preceded by his four siblings. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, and worked in the Propane Industry, and was a Yard Supervisor for Collins and Ryan Propane Gas Company. Bozie was a renowned fixture of the Town of Millsboro, and a local hero for several reasons: Foremost, he served for 66 years in the Millsboro Fire Company, and over 40 years with the VFW Ambulance Squad.
He was a central figure in controlling a massive propane leak in the early 1970’s that threatened to devastate the greater part of Millsboro. Bozie and many other men got the leak under control and saved many lives. He was known to be wonderful to have around when tragedy struck in any neighborhood of Millsboro.
All the while, he remained a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Irene with whom he shared 70 years of marriage, and raised two daughters: Peggy Holston Harrelson, of St. Mary’s, Georgia and Judy Lee Hall, of Millsboro, DE. He has six grandchildren: Julia Messick Verbanic, and her husband Steve (Christina, Julius, Lauren and Kaitlin); Pamela Lynn Shockley and her husband Jeff (Bo and Paige); Kevin Allen Hall, and his wife Janice; G.G. Messick, and his wife Kristina (Delana); Curtis Edward Hall and his wife Heather (Kenzie and Kylee); and Emily Messick Pettyjohn, and her husband David (Rylee and Cale).
He is also survived by brother-in-law Albert Quillen, and wife Nancy; 11 great-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces; nephews; extended family; and many, many friends across Sus County and in the Delaware Fire Service. A viewing and visitation will be held on Sunday, July 1, 2018 from 11 AM till 2 PM at the Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro, followed by a funeral service and Celebration of His Life. Fire Department Honors will be conferred and the service is officiated by Fire Chaplain Robert Hudson, Past President of the Delaware State Firefighter’s Association and fellow Firefighter and Retired State Police Captain Lynn Bullock.
Interment follows in Millsboro Cemetery with full Fire Department Honors and conveying his casket on the 1937 Antique REO fire truck from Station 83. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Millsboro Vol. Fire Co., P.O. Box 83, Millsboro, DE 19966.
