Burial will follow in McKinney Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the hour of service at the church.

He passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019. Bill was born on July 4, 1934 in Stewart County, TN, the eighth child of Garland Edwin and Willie Maude Marquess Walker. Bill was known and loved throughout Bumpus Mills and Stewart and Montgomery Counties.

He made friends easily and once he met you, he never forgot you. He had an infectious hearty laugh which could always be heard around Bumpus Mills where he loved to visit with his friends. Bill could be seen every Sunday with his Bible tucked under his arm walking to service at Bumpus Mills Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member.

He was known for planning his birthday party months in advance and invited everyone he came into contact with. For his birthday in 1975, the Tennessee State Senate held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of the Bill Walker Bridge in Bumpus Mills. Later, Bill received a letter from First Lady Rosalyn Carter congratulating him on his accomplishments.

Bill also received a certificate making him an honorary Kentucky Colonel. His family would like to thank Sunrise Community for welcoming Bill into their family and taking such good care of him and adding many adventures to his life. Bill’s family can’t begin to mention everyone that had such an impact on his life, but each of you enriched Bill’s life beyond measure.

If wealth was determined by the number of friends you have, Bill would have been a wealthy man. Please visit Bill’s guestbook at www. sykesfuneralhome.com to share a memory with the family.
