Gwendolyn M Schultze , January 30, 1939 — March 12, 2019

Gwendolyn Mae (Moore) Schultze Jan. 30, 1939 – March 12, 2019 Depoe Bay resident, Gwendolyn ‘Gwenn’ Mae Schultze (80), passed away March 12, 2019, at the age of 80. Gwenn was born Jan 30, 1939, in Medford, OR, the daughter of Bernie Bell and Elsie Mae (Penwell) Moore.

Her early years were spent on the family’s small farm in Central Point, OR. After graduating from Crater High School, she attended Portland State University, earning her BA and MA in English and Speech. In 1972, Gwenn began her career at Portland Comm.

College (Rock Creek). During her tenure there, she served as a Communications Instructor as well as Humanities Chair until her retirement in 1997. Throughout her professional career, in addition to a well-respected educator, Gwenn was also an arbitrator, consultant & guest lecturer in numerous venues.

Gwenn had a passion for sailing and, for 17 years, lived on a Hans Christian sail boat in the Portland area with her husband Lou, often spending the summers cruising in British Columbia. After retirement, she & Lou moved to Depoe Bay, OR, where they lived with their beloved Water Dogs, Polly & Jake. Gwenn was an accomplished writer & featured Polly in a self-published children’s story, The Dog That’s Not a Poodle.

Her second book, The Little Book of Hats, was influenced by her own personal battle with cancer & served as a re for other women who have lost their hair through cancer treatments. Gwenn’s writing pursuits were varied with sailing related articles being published in an Intern’l boating magazine. In addition to writing, Gwenn was also a talented painter and enjoyed staying active during her life by playing golf and tennis, cross country skiing & gardening.

Gwenn was predeceased by her father & mother, Bernie and Elsie Moore. She is survived by Louis, her loving husband of 40 yrs; sons, David Danielson and Richard Danielson (Therese); daughter, Danette Burleigh (Stephen); stepson, Louis Schultze (Debbie); stepdaughter, Becky Press (Fred); sister, Connie Gowin; 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces and many special friends. Gwenn was a strong, resilient woman who fully embraced life & persevered regardless of the challenges laid before her.

She was deeply loved & will be greatly missed by her family & friends. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled later this spring, date yet to be determined.
