Hans Knoechel, August 08, 1928 — March 26, 2019

Hans H. Knoechel, age 90 of Powell, OH passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 with his loving family by his side. Hans was born August 8, 1928, in Danzig, Germany to the late Heinrich and Hildegard (Both) Knoechel. He immigrated to the United States in September 1951 and settled in Columbus, Ohio.

In March 1954, he was drafted into the United States Army where he joined the 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, NC, and served on active duty until March 1956. Upon returning to Columbus after his honorable discharge, he resumed working for Columbus Coated Fabrics, from where he retired in 1993 after 41 years of service. He played soccer for the Germania Singing and Sport Society and remained a life-long fan of the sport.

It was at the Germania where he met the love of his life, Waltraut. They married in 1957, and just celebrated their 62nd year of marriage. In 1958, he built their home located in Powell, Ohio, where he resided for the rest of his life.

He and Waltraut raised three children of whom he was most proud. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in their various activities, traveling with his family throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe, camping, working on his many Volkswagens, reading military history, working in his garden, spending time with his dogs, and after a hard day’s work – sitting under the shade tree enjoying a cold beverage. He always was there for anyone who needed help and will be greatly missed.

Surviving are his wife; Waltraut, children; Anita, Connie and Tom (Kathleen) Knoechel, grandchildren; Katie and Michael Knoechel, sister; Ingeborg May, nephew; Stephen (Andrew Bauer) May and niece; Stephanie Sherman Friends will be received on Saturday, April 6, 2019 in the RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME @ POWELL 450 West Olentangy Street, Powell, OH 43065 from 11 AM until the 1 PM Celebration of Life Service, Vickie Kissel, celebrant. Military honors will be conducted by the US Army following service.
