Harold Hughes, 73, of Green Mountain, died unexpectedly Friday, December 21, 2018, at his home. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Chet and Mae Cassida Hughes. He was also preceded in death by a brother and sister-in-law: Harley and Janie Hughes.

Harold was a US Army Veteran. A former employee of Unimin, he enjoyed raising Christmas trees. Harold attended Youngs Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years: Mary Ayers Hughes; daughter: Kellie Marieka Hughes of the home; and 2 sisters: Christine Hughes of Burnsville and Joyce Allman of Morganton. Funeral services will be held at Noon Monday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Rev.

Russell Hughes will officiate. Burial will be in the Pete Young Cemetery. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
