Obituary for Harold Lawrence Betz Harold Lawrence Betz Born March 12, 1926, Mansfield Ohio. Died August 30, 2018, Kansas City, Missouri at the age of 92. Harold was a 1st generation American, the son of Austro-Hungarian parents.
He was an old-school cabinetmaker learned at the hand of his father and practiced with his brothers. He built the lost-art details in high-end residences such as hidden doors and spiral staircases. Harold served in WWII at the Battle of Bulge, earning two Bronze Medals and a Sharpshooters Medal.
Typical of him, he never spoke of the honor; they were found in a drawer just before his death. He had piercing blue eyes that twinkled when telling a joke and a stubborn jaw line when he chose to be a crank. Harold set the gold standard for honesty, integrity, hard work, stubbornness, thrift and humbleness.
He died as he lived; once the decision was made he was gone suddenly and with as little drama as possible. He was a man of few words but many actions. He leaves to honor his life, his wife of 70 years, Marilyn Joan (Walker) Betz; Steve Betz of St. Anne, Illinois and Julie Warm of Kansas City, Missouri.
He joins his son Jeffrey Betz. Other beloved family members include Judy Betz (Jeffrey), Julie Betz (Steve), Linda Carroll (Jeffrey), Janet Lyons, David Warm (Julie) and numerous family that will always consider Betner Dr. home base. Harold would not like this obituary to go on; it was never about him.
But it seems fitting to leave a message to the only thing that really mattered to him—his grandchildren. Anna Warm. London, UK.
You introduced me to the joys of being a grandfather. Thank you; it was a brilliant gift. I also learned from you courage and resilience and what a strong woman looks like.
I am honored that you are continuing my legacy of hard work and honesty at all costs. Mary Warm. Kansas City, MO.
You taught me joy and absolute unconditional love and I’m a cranky old guy. You have been, are, and always will be my best friend. It would be easier to list the things that you did not teach me then to try to list all the ways you changed this life.
I love you Mary. Andre Betz. St. Anne, IL.
Andre, you are it, young man. You are the one who will have to carry on my name. I am confident that you are up to it because you are clearly on the right path.
Your dad will help you and explain things as you grow. I know you are in good hands. Services are private.
