Harold O. Barnes, 66, of Rockford, IL passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018. He was born June 7, 1952 in Nuremberg, Germany to Oscar Barnes and Irmgard Barbara (Pfleger) Olson. Harold came to the U.S. when he was 2.

His father was in the military and the family traveled extensively from Virginia to Japan and many places in between. He graduated from East High School and attended Rock Valley College. Employed as a tool grinder/engineer for more than 40 years for various companies in the Rockford area.

He and Kathryn Barnes are parents of Geoffrey, whom he shared his love of the Boundary Waters with during Geoffrey’s youth, making many trips there. He never missed a sporting event that Geoffrey was in. Harold loved fishing, playing his guitar and growing the best tomatoes.

Survivors include son, Geoffrey Barnes; Kathryn Barnes both of Loves Park; step-mother, Joyce Barnes of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; sister, Serena (John) Ingrassia of Rockford; brother, Clyde (Vanessa) Barnes of Loves Park; step-brother, Rick Isaacson of Sault Ste. Marie, MI; nieces and nephews, Michael and Kristina Ingrassia, Karlina, Brianna, and Carter Barnes; great nieces and nephew, Avrie Baxa, Elena Hernandez-Ingrassia, and Hunter Ingrassia.

Predeceased by parents; step-father, Waldemar Olson; step-sister, Cathy Brazil; grandparents; aunts; and uncles. Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Honquest Family Funeral Home with Crematory – Mulford Chapel 4311 N. Mulford Road, Loves Park with a visitation from 1:00 p.m. until time of service.
