Hector “Jerry” Valdez, Jr. October 9, 1955 – February 28, 2019 Hector “Jerry” Valdez Jr., 63, born in El Paso, Texas on October 9, 1955 went to be with the Lord Thursday, February 28, 2019. Preceded in death by his father, Hector Valdez Sr.; sister, Barbara Valdez; mother-in-law, Gloria B. Martinez. Survived by his mother, Sofia Valdez; lifetime partner, Rosalba M. Valdez; daughter, Tracy V. Valdez; grandson, Cassian N. Overson; son-in-law, Nathaniel Overson and expected grandson due in March, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Hector was a loving and devoted son, brother, husband, and father; family mattered most to him and it came first. He was looking forward to meeting his grandson, Cassian, in person and anxiously awaiting the arrival of his new grandson to spend time with, play and take them to football games. He wanted to show them how to be little gentlemen.

He was a dedicated and devoted Dallas Cowboy fan, no matter if they won or lost. He had a love for animals and a special connection with his chihuahua, Max, which he called “El Maestro” and his cats. Hector was grateful and loved the Lord and he thanked Him endlessly every day, for the angels he had sent his way during his battle with cancer.

He would say Dr. Alexander Philipovskiy MD at Texas Tech, Sabrina and Cindy were heaven sent, especially because Dr. Philipovskiy never gave up on trying to help him beat the battle. Hector was also very grateful and appreciative of his case worker Ana Aranda, Amanda in Admissions, and Oscar who helped him endlessly. He also would like to thank all the staff (who he would call his Angels) at UMC on the seventh floor, too many to name individually but he did not want to exclude anyone.

Also, the family is very grateful to Jerry and Staff in the Infusion Department, Emergency Staff, ICU Staff, and also the staff on the 3rd and 4th floor at UMC. The family also says thank you for all the care and love you showed Hector. Hector loved life; he enjoyed living and won the fight against cancer, for he has gone home and is now cancer free.
