familypromiseirving.org. Phone number 972 313 1500. Tribute: How lucky could I and my siblings have been than to have had the best father anyone in this world could ever ask for!

Jerry Burton however, was this and much more. He was also a loving husband, doting grandfather and a devoted counselor and friend to many. He was a highly successful executive and a leader in his field and he and Mom were able to put all six of us kids through college!

An avid reader and sports fan, he could carry a conversation in most any topic. Dad loved conversation. He had a brilliant mind and a warm and welcoming heart of gold, with listening eyes that made you feel as if you were the most important person in the world.

He truly listened to you, and if he had advise to offer you can bet it was golden. Dad had an awesome sense of humor too, and his timing was impeccable. Being very intuitive, he always knew exactly when to pull out just the right quip that would have everyone rolling on the floor in hysterics!

Dad also knew how to break the ice and make everyone feel welcome- reminding us of our common humanity. Borne out of his Christian faith, he had the gift of harmony and peacemaking. Jerry knew that it was always more important to show love and respect than to be right about everything all the time.

Jerry walked with the Lord, serving as a long-time Sunday school teacher and Elder in his church. His reverence for all people did not go unnoticed by his children. Raised in the Deep South, Jerry Burton witnessed hate and bigotry, but did not succumb to the social norms of his time and place.

He would be sure to instill in his children a deep respect for all people, regardless of race, , nationality or any other differentiator. For this, he has left a legacy of love and acceptance that permeates through his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Being proud to call Jerry Burton our Dad would be a huge understatement.

Dad, you did incredible things in this world and we are so thankful God let me have you as our Dad. You are loved immensely.
