Heinrich Hackemer, ”Henry” of Braintree, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 12th, in the company of loved ones after a valiant battle with cancer. Henry was born November 21, 1930. He was 88 years old.

Henry, was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States, he set his roots in Braintree, where he built his home and raised his family; both of which brought him great pride. A tool and die maker by trade, Henry had a successful career in research and development with Polaroid before retiring to pursue his second career as an entrepreneur, importing high quality windows and doors. Henry, was passionate about many things in life, he enjoyed a love of history and culture and spent time hunting, fishing and working in his garden.

He spoke several languages and maintained strong ties to friends and the German community. For much of his life, he was a member in the Walpole German Club as well as his much loved Schlaraffia club, a society dedicated to friendship, art and humor. As in Robert Hasting’s poem, “The Station”, Heinrich has reached his final “station” in this life, knowing that he lived a rich life along the way.

Henry is survived by his loving wife Ursula of 51 years, his two daughters, Heidi Morris and husband Richard of Braintree and Corinna DelVecchio and husband Eric; and his grandchildren, Jakob Morris, Sydney Morris, Adriana DelVecchio and Avalina DelVecchio. Friends and family members are invited to attend a memorial service celebrating his life, officiated by Pastor Susan Henry, on Friday, December 21, at 11 am at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, 916 Main Street, Hingham, Ma. Donations in Henry’s memory can be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
