Helen Batten, 92, of Hyattsville, Maryland passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the Serenity Hope Assisted Living, in Good Hope, West Virginia. She was born in Washington, DC, on May 2, 1926, a daughter of the late Ray and Ethel Stilwell Roberts. Mrs. Batten is joining her husband, Raymond Batten; two daughters, Shirley Rahne and Connie Swiger; and one son, Raymond Batten Jr. in heaven.

She is survived by her daughter, Yolanda “Smooch” Rodgers, and a living legacy including 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Mrs. Batten was a homemaker who created a loving and welcoming place for everyone. She enveloped her family as well as her neighbors and friends, always willing to take a break from her gardening and invite you to join her and her boston terrier to share a seat (and maybe a spice drop or a Pepsi) on the front porch.

On Tuesday, January 29th, 2019 there will be a viewing from 11:00-1:00 at Cedar Hill Funeral Home, 4111 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suitland, Maryland. Immediately following the viewing, Mrs. Batten will be laid to rest at the Cedar Hill Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be extended to the family through the Cedar Hill Funeral Home.
