Helen’s Obituary WELCOME: Funeral services for Helen S. Hartjen, 90, of rural Welcome, Minnesota, will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Fraser Township, rural Fairmont, Minnesota. Burial will be in Welcome City Cemetery. Helen was called to her eternal rest on Friday morning, January 4, 2019 at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center, Fairmont, Minnesota.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church in Fraser Township, rural Fairmont and one hour prior to the services. Messages of sympathy may be sent to the family on line at www. kramerfuneralhome.com Helen Sophia Marie Winter was born on June 9, 1928 to Christian Frederick Daniel Winter and Alma Martha Amanda Anna Schulz in Lake Belt Township, Martin County, Minnesota.

She was baptized in 1928 and later confirmed, both in Ceylon. Helen received her education in Ceylon Public School, later graduating with the class of 1946. On November 7, 1945 she was united in marriage to Melvin Joseph Hartjen at the home of Helen’s parents in rural Ceylon, Minnesota.

Helen was a housewife and farm wife and, together with Melvin, raised their eight daughters in Fox Lake Township, rural Welcome. Melvin was called to his eternal rest on Friday, May 7, 1999. Helen continued living on the farm in Fox Lake Township until becoming a resident of Goldfinch Estates and Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center, both in Fairmont.

Helen was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She greatly enjoyed traveling, crocheting, leather work, genealogy, Scrabble, Cribbage, computer games and email, and solving number finds. She is survived by her eight daughters: Patricia (Louis) Plueger of Mankato, Minnesota, Beverly Stowe of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Lonnie (Robert) Moffitt of rural Welcome, Minnesota, Kathleen (David) Schultz of Spirit Lake, Iowa, Jennifer Schmolke of rural Welcome, Minnesota, Marsha (Paul) Peterson of Blaine, Minnesota, Amy (Brad) Handevidt of Mantorville, Minnesota, and Rita (Byron) Cole of Mantorville, Minnesota; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Melvin; two sisters, Hazel (Justin) Zitterich and Hilda (Al) Terfehr; and other relatives. Helen’s family would prefer donations be made to: Parkinson’s Disease or American Heart Association.
