Obituary for Helen Irene Sheffer Helen I. Sheffer, resident of Garland, Texas, passed away peacefully under the tender care of Hospice at the Faith Presbyterian facility on Monday, October 29, 2018. Helen Irene Hartzell was born on October 11, 1923 in rural Indiana and married Elwood W. Sheffer on December 8, 1941. When her husband was called into the service of his country and while he fought in World War II, Helen cared for their first two young children.

After the war, the family moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana where all four of their children were raised. Helen now joins her husband of 69 years and is survived by son, Richard D. Sheffer and wife, Janet of Valparaiso, IN; daughter, Patricia S. Ashworth and husband, Larry of Ft. Wayne, IN; daughter, Debra J. Miller and husband, Daniel of Garland, TX; daughter, Kathy M. Elzey and husband, Dale of Moreland, GA; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her faithful, canine companion, Brody.

She will rest with her husband at DFW National Cemetery in Arlington, TX. A memorial service will be planned after the first of the year. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation to the charity of your choice.
