Helen J. Mueller, 95, of Taylor Ridge, died Sunday, September 30, 2018, at Genesis Senior Living, Aledo. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, October 27, 2018, at Zion Lutheran Church, 18121 134th Ave. W., Taylor Ridge.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rock Island Farm Bureau Scholarship Fund, Mercer County Family YMCA, or Zion Lutheran Church.

Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., is assisting the family. Helen was born on November 26, 1922, in Elkhart, IL, the daughter of Edward and Harriet (Conry) Council. She married Myron C. Mueller on June 10, 1945, in Williamsville, IL.

He preceded her in death on May 11, 2008. Helen received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Illinois. She was a home economics and biology teacher at Rockridge High School.

She retired from the Rockridge Community School District #300 in May 1986, after 25 years. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Dorcus Society. She was a leader of the Edgington Sunshine 4-H Club.

She received the 4-H Award for Outstanding Leadership from the state of Illinois. She was a member and leader of the Rock Island County Home Extension, the Rock Island County Farm Bureau, and a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association. Helen loved to bake and won a first-place award for cherry pie baking with the state of Illinois and third-place in the National Cherry Pie Baking Contest.

Helen will be remembered as a kind and loving woman who was devoted to her church, her husband, Myron, her family, and for her passion for her students and teaching. Survivors include her children, Nancy (Douglas) Sims, Keystone, CO, Tom (Debbie) Mueller, Taylor Ridge, Janette (Bruce) Temple, Ainsworth, IA; grandchildren, Laura (Ian) Lacy, Alan Temple, Rob (Polina) Sims, Anne (Ben) Folk, Susan (Jonathan) Coppess, Michael (Katie) Mueller; and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Mary Drummond, and brother, Harold Council.
