YOUNGSTOWN – Helen Yingst, 94, passed away peacefully late Tuesday morning, Sept. 11, 2018, at Park Vista in Youngstown. Helen was born Jan.

25, 1924, in Pittsburgh, Pa. , a daughter of the late George and Mary Malatak Fitsko. She spent her childhood and youth in Pittsburgh, and came to this area in 1964 with her new husband.

Helen was a 1941 graduate of David B. Oliver High School in Pittsburgh, and attended the University of Pittsburgh for a time. She later graduated with an associate’s degree from Youngstown State University in 1972, and a bachelor’s degree in home economics in 1976 while she was working in the laboratory of St Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown. Helen also worked during World War II at the American Bridge Company in Ambridge, Pa.

Later, she was employed as a laboratory technician at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Pittsburgh. While attending the University of Pittsburgh, she met her future husband, Ralph Yingst. They were married Aug.

29, 1964, at St John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Ambridge. She was a member of St Michael Orthodox Church in Youngstown and of the St Elizabeth Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending summer vacations at Camp Nazareth and volunteering at The St. Elizabeth Guest House.

Since 2004, she was an active resident of Park Vista Retirement Community in Youngstown. Helen leaves her husband of 54 years, Ralph E. Yingst; six nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Two brothers, John Fitsko and Joseph Fitsko; two sisters, Margaret Prisby and Mary Fitsko; and a nephew, preceded her in death.

Private funeral services were held at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Rd. , Youngstown, and private interment took place on Friday, Sept. 14, at Economy Cemetery in Ambridge.
