Henry A. Mizelle, at the advanced age of 99 years, passed away at his home following a sudden decline in health on April 28, 2018, which brought to a close a long, active and useful Life. He was surrounded by his family. Henry A. was born January 22, 1919 in Bertie County, Windsor, North Carolina to Henry Aaran Mizelle and Bertie Barnaeastel Mizelle.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1941-1945. After his service in the Air Force, he was employed by the Southern Railroad in Selma and retired as Yardmaster after 35 years. He also served on the Selma City Council from 1956-1965.

He was preceded in death by his parents of Ahoskie, North Carolina; daughter, Vickie Lynn Mizelle McGuire of Jackson, Alabama; wife of 74 years, Evelyn McMillian Mizelle; sisters, Bailey Mizelle Marshal of Richmond, Virginia, Hazel Mizelle Jernigan of Colerain, North Carolina, Mildred Tayloe Wright of Smithfield, North Carolina and Vashtie Mizelle Brown of Jackson, Mississippi. Henry A. is survived by his daughter, Charlotte Mizelle (Morris) Veach of Selma, Alabama; grandchildren, Morris Craig (Linda) Veach of Montgomery, Alabama, Shannon Mizelle Veach of Birmingham, Alabama; Richard Michael McGuire, Jr. of Semes, Alabama and Brianne Shea (Joey) Spiers of Leroy, Alabama; great-grandchildren, Brandon Craig (Lauren) Veach of Birmingham, Alabama; Mary Kaylin Veach of Montgomery, Alabama and Jordyn Mizelle Neil of Birmingham, Alabama; great-great-grandchildren, Ethan Michael McGuire, Shawn Matthew McGuire, Chloe Lynn McGuire of Semes, Alabama and Isabella Grace Rowland and Tenley Victoria Rowland of Leroy, Alabama; nieces, Marie Brown (Jim) Myers of Jackson, Mississippi, JoAnn Rodda of Manhattan Beach, California and Linda Jernigan (Bobby) Harrell of Colerain, North Carolina and several great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be officiated by the Reverend Travis W. Barnes of Barrett Road United Methodist Church and Doctor Jerry Light of First Baptist Church under the direction of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m.at Barrett Road United Methodist Church, one hour before the service that will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2018. Interment will follow in New Live Oak Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons; Morris Craig Veach and Richard Michael McGuire, Jr.; great-grandsons, Brandon Craig Veach, Ethan Michael McGuire, Shawn Matthew McGuire and special friend, Jeffrey Herrod.

Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Barrett Road United Methodist Church. Memorial donations may be made to Barrett Road United Methodist Church; 615 Barrett Road, Selma, Alabama 36701.
