Henry Lee Shermer, 83, passed away peacefully at Yadkin Nursing Center in Yadkinville, NC on Monday, February 18, 2019 surrounded by his family. Henry was born August 27, 1935 in Forsyth County to the late Arthur and Sallie Spillman Shermer. He was preceded in death by one brother, Frederick Shermer and three sisters, Harriett Martin, Blanche Allen, and Ruby Shermer.

Henry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Juanita Johnson Shermer; daughters, Melissa Hire (Jeff), Nada Hepler (Howard); son, James Shermer (April); granddaughters, Abigail Hepler Bradford (Jeremy) and Catherine Hepler Carlton (Devin); grandsons, Andrew Hire, Ethan Shermer (Victoria), Colton Shermer and Troy Shermer; great-grandson, Hunter Lee Shermer and expecting a new great-grandson in three weeks, Waylon Elliott Shermer; brother-in-law, Tom Allen; also surviving is a niece and four nephews. Henry proudly served our country in the U.S. Marine Corp. He was a member of the American Legion Post 522 in Lewisville and the VFW Military Honor Guard.

He was an active member of Temple Baptist Church in Lewisville as long as his health permitted. He retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. with 32 years of service. Henry enjoyed restoring antique cars and going to car shows.

The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Hayworth-Miller Lewisville Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Josh Boles officiating. Entombment will follow at Westlawn Gardens of Memory Mausoleum Chapel with full military rites.

The family requests that memorials be made to Temple Baptist Church Mission Fund, PO Box 130 Lewisville, NC 27023.
