Obituary for Herman Stekler Died at home on Tuesday, September 4, 2018. He is survived by his wife Alice Weinstein and daughters Beth and Joanne Stekler, Joanne’s partner Thomas Carter, and granddaughter Leia Stekler. He is predeceased by his wife, Lois Stekler.

Born in Vienna, Austria on November 4, 1932, he came to the United States in March 1939 when he and his mother joined his father in Worcester, MA. He attended Clark University and received his PhD in Economics from MIT. He was shaped by his experience of escaping the Holocaust and dedicated his life to giving back what he could to the institutions that nurtured him.

He was a passionate teacher and mentor of students and colleagues. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Washington Hebrew Congregation located at 3935 Macomb Street, NW, Washington, DC 20016 with interment to follow at Garden of Remembrance in Clarksburg, MD. The family will be observing Shiva immediately following services at the residence of Alice Weinstein.
