OBITUARY Hortense Logan Jones July 1, 1923 – July 26, 2018 Hortense “Horty” Jones, 95, passed away July 26, 2018. She was a graduate of Phillips High School, and received undergraduate degrees from Stephens College and the University of Alabama, and received her Master’s Degree from the University of Montevallo. She was a dedicated school teacher who taught school at Shades Valley High School, Birmingham University School, Briarwood Christian School and Samford University.

She was an active member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church, PCA. Horty’s interest included travelling, tennis and bridge. She travelled the world several times with her adventurous spirit.

Many of her travels included missionary work and smuggling Bibles with Brother Andrew. She was preceded in death by her parents Elmer and Annis Logan and brother Roger E. Logan. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Marlyn and Jim Hankins (Richmond, VA), Sharon Love (Ringgold, GA) , Robyn Mitchell (Birmingham), and Wendy and Rick Dillon (Huntsville), twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 29, 2018 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 2:30 p.m. Pastor Mark Cushman and Pastor Chris Thompson of Briarwood Presbyterian Church will officiate the service. A private Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff and devoted caregivers at Magnolia Trace and HarborChase in Huntsville.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Briarwood Presbyterian Church, 2200 Briarwood Way, Birmingham, AL 35243, Friends of Winnataska, P.O.
