Hubert’s Obituary Hubert L. Hunzeker, 98, of Spring Grove, Minnesota died on Wednesday, January 23rd at the Gundersen Tweeten Care Center. He was born in Peru, Nebraska on November 12th, 1920 to Clyde and Lily (Branek) Hunzeker. Hubert’s distinguished life included serving as a US Navy officer on an attack transport in both the Atlantic and Pacific during WWII.

He went on to teach, earning multiple college degrees culminating in a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Michigan in 1960. He was a Professor and Math Dept. Head at the University of Omaha and later at Michigan Technological University.

When he retired, he and his family moved to Onalaska, Wisconsin. He was an active member of La Crescent United Methodist Church and continued to teach – not about math – but his deep faith in Jesus Christ and love for the Scriptures. Hubert was also a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle.

Hubert is survived by daughters, Mary Hunzeker, Lisa (Henry) Wiens and Electra Rich; son, James (Darla) Hunzeker; grandchildren Jessica (Christopher) Strinmoen, Travis (Stefanie) Hunzeker, Tyler (Ashley) Hunzeker, Kyle (Ali) Hunzeker, Lora (Cathy) Wiens, Stephanie Wiens Noyes, Joanna (Gavin) Deming, Carolyn (Jonathan) Kuhfuss and Jude Rich; step-daughter, Judy Kerska, step-grandsons, Eric (Tina) Kerska and Marc (Elizabeth) Kerska, numerous great grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Hubert was preceded in death by his son, Peter Hunzeker, first wife Gloria D. Hunzeker (married ’43 – ’89) and by Dorothy J. Olson (married ’92 to ’14); also by his brothers, Clyde and Lorain and sister, Emma Hunzeker. The preservice Burial will be held on Saturday, February 2nd at 1:00PM at St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in Eitzen, Minnesota.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 2nd at 2:30 PM at the La Crescent United Methodist Church, Pastor Aaron Justice officiating. Friends may call at La Crescent Methodist Church from 2:00 to 2:30 PM. The Schumacher-Kish Funeral and Cremation Services assisted with arrangements.
