OBITUARY Hugh Gerard Daley August 30, 1941 – January 7, 2019 DIXFIELD – Hugh Gerard Daley, 77 of Dixfield, passed away during the afternoon hours of Monday, January 7, 2019 at his home, with the love of his life, his wife Vawn caring for him in his final moments. Hugh was born on August 30, 1941 in Carthage, ME, a son of Alward and Ruth (Webster) Daley. Hugh attended Dixfield schools and enlisted in the Air Force at a young age and specialized as a jet engine mechanic.

Hugh married Vawn (Mingo) Daley in April of 1971 and remained married to her for (47) forty-seven years. Hugh served his country valiantly enduring (3) three tours in Vietnam and eventually retired from military life in 1983 after a (24) twenty-four year career. Hugh was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, particularly fly fishing and hunting.

He shared and passed his passion for the outdoors on to many family members and friends. After leaving the Air Force, Hugh was employed at the Dixfield Nursing Home as the head maintenance supervisor from 1983 – 1998 and worked in the same capacity at the Rumford Hospital for (4) four years. Hugh was a Mason in the King Hiram Lodge and was a devoted member of the Dixfield American Legion, the Dixfield Congregational Church, the Rumford VFW and served the Town of Dixfield as a Selectman and Chairman on the Board of Selectmen for (18) eighteen years.

Hugh had a huge heart. He loved many and was loved by many. Hugh was predeceased by his parents, (4) four brothers, Robert, Alward, Edward and John and (4) sisters, Francis, Dorothy, Marion and Alice and a son, Shawn Daley.

He is survived by his loving wife, Vawn, his sons, Rusty and his wife, Lisa and Michael and his wife, Gladys, (2) two granddaughters, Caitlin and Shawna-Mae Daley, his brother, Elwin and his wife Genie, and his sister Emily (Daley) Fletcher and her husband Cleon as well as many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. “Well done thou good and faithful servant…enter thou into the joy of thy Lord” Matthew 25:21 “He maketh me as surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights” Psalm 18:33 Spring time is a season of beauty, awakening and renewal. It is at that time a celebration of life will be organized for Hugh.

Special thanks are sincerely given by the Daley family to the responding and professional staff of Med-Care Ambulance, Dixfield Police Chief Jeffrey Howe and the attending staff at the Rumford Emergency Department for all of your diligent efforts while caring for Hugh.
