OBITUARY Hugh Jerome Buchanan November 28, 1935 – October 15, 2018 Waynesville-Hugh Jerome Buchanan, 82, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, October 15, 2018, at The Homestead, surrounded by his family and friends. Hugh was born in Haywood County on November 28, 1935, to the late Julius Sr. and Viola Coffey Buchanan. He enjoyed working in his garden and shared his bounty with family, friends and strangers alike, he was especially known for his large striped tomatoes and large ears of corn.

Hugh enjoyed vacationing with the entire family and dear friends at various beach locations in Florida. Most of all Hugh loved his church and his family. Hugh’s handprints are evident all over Hazelwood Baptist Church where he was a lifelong member and worked for an additional 17 years after his retirement from Dayco, where he worked faithfully for 33 years.

In addition to his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by three brothers, JB, Bob, and Neil. Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Nancy Haney Buchanan; his sons, Jerome Buchanan, Brian Walker (Angie), and Robbie Walker; his brother, Jerry Buchanan (Susan); five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins; and his fur babies, Patches and Callie. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 19, at Hazelwood Baptist Church with the Reverends Tim Lolley and Charles Dean officiating.

Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-2 PM prior to the service at the church and at other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to Hazelwood Baptist Church at 265 Hazelwood Ave.

Waynesville, NC 28786. The family would like to offer a word of special thanks to George Ferguson that without his help over the past several months, Hugh would not have been able to remain at his beloved home. The family would also like to thank Haywood Home Health (Nurses and Therapists), Wound Care, and The Homestead for their sensitivity and compassionate care of not only Hugh, but the entire family.
