Obituary of Ida Smith Ida M. Smith after living a full blessed life of 101 years and six generations for the past seven years passed away peacefully on September 11, 2018 at Middletown Park Manor Rehab Center surrounded by her loving family. Ida was the daughter of the late Hanford and Fannie DeGroat and was born in Sus, N.J. on January 18, 1917. She was predeceased by her husband George Smith.

She had nine siblings brothers Hayward, Hanford, Ralph, Jonah, Calvin and Richard and sisters Margaret, Frances and Doris. Gammie as she was affectionately called was known for her much requested “Choc chip cookies”. She was the oldest member of the St. John’s AME Zion Church, where she enjoyed attending services and Bible Study.

She served as a missionary and she was a woman of faith. Mom was our Hero. Ida’s family wishes to gratefully thank Laura Krisanda and staff at Park Manor Rehab Unit 2.

Your kindness and compassion for Ida was greatly appreciated. She leaves behind her two children Natalie Gardner and George Danny Smith (Patricia) to mourn her passing. Foster daughter Flo Glover and her loving God Son Kevin Smart of New Jersey.

Her eight grandchildren to cherish her memory Richelle Hilliard (Wayne); Renee Burrell; Darren Gardner; Tracey Clark; Natalie, Dannel and Darren Smith. She was predeceased by her grandson Ricky Gardner. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday September 15, 2018 from 12 Noon-1 P.M. with a celebration of Life Service at 1 P.M. at the St. John’s AME Zion Church 103 East Ave. Middletown, N.Y. The Rev. Robert Kilpatrick II will officiate.
