Imogene was born June 12, 1922 in Ashford, Alabama to Carson and Audrey Glass. She passed away March 1, 2019. Survivors include one son Tommy Adams Jr., of Crestview, Florida one daughter, Tricia and her husband Ben Cox of Tallahassee, Florida.
She is also survived by three grandchildren, Melanie Hale, Julie Cox Money, and Ashley Cox and three great grandchildren Ashton, Niki, and Heather Hale. She was lovingly called “Mugee” by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Other survivors include her nephew Tommy Gamble and his wife Mary Helen of Montgomery, Alabama, the Steele family – Pete Steele, Bea Steele, Jackie Holling, and J.J. Steele, two aunts Mrs. Jack Bruner and Mrs. Ruth Dykes and their families of Ashford, Alabama, one aunt, Ruth Dykes and her family and a special friend of the family, Martha Pridgen of DeFuniak Springs, Florida.
She is survived by many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Preceding her in death was her husband, Thomas Henry Adams, and her parents, Carson and Audrey Glass of Ashford, Alabama, one sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Henton Elmore, and her very precious granddaughter, Amy Suzanne Cox of Tallahassee. Imogene’s father was a teacher, merchant, bank trustee, and a deacon in the First Baptist Church of Ashford.
Her mother was a homemaker, active in the school, church, and social life of the Ashford youth. Her home was one of strong Christian discipline, and love. Imogene knew and was a family member of seven generations of the Bruner-Glass family.
The Bruner relatives began with her great-grandmother, Ashley, who lived for ten years of Imogene’s life. In 1942, she met and married Thomas Henry Adams. They were married for 74 years.
Her daughter, Tricia, once said, “Their marriage reminded her of a long, loving honeymoon”. Her son, Tommy, said, “They were very happy and enjoyed life and each other”. Imogene was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crestview and taught Sunday School classes to young children and adults for several years.
In the late 1940’s, she and her husband became “Die Hard” fans of the Florida Gators. They attended many games in Gainesville, many Gator road games, and continued to watch each game the “Gators” played on TV up to present day. She was a charter member of Becky’s Bridge Club.
She played bridge for many years, was an avid reader, and active in the school life of her children. She and Henry were charter members of the Los Caballeros. Imogene loved genealogy.
She studied the Bruners, the Glasses, the Adams family and her daughter’s family and wrote histories of the families and her involvement with them. Her husband, Henry, was a civil service worker at Eglin Air Force Base. He retired and worked for the Okaloosa School System for several years.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the First Baptist Church of Crestview, Covenant Presbyterian Church of Tallahassee, and the many other churches in Crestview and other cities that prayed for Imogene. Before leaving this earthly home, she often expressed her thanks for their prayers and felt that those prayers and love extended her life after her initial diagnosis of terminal cancer. The family also extends their gratitude to her many doctors for their tender and loving care extended to Imogene in her last days.
Services will be held at Whitehurst Funeral Home in Crestview, Florida on Monday March 11, 2019 at 1:00pm with visitation starting at 12:00pm. Arrangements are entrusted to Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview. Guest book and condolences are available online at www.
