OBITUARY Inez Catherine Douglas February 10, 1928 – September 17, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Inez Catherine Douglas went to be with her Lord and Savior on September 17th, 2018. She lived a life of love, faith, strength and integrity. She was born in Shreveport, Louisiana and was the youngest daughter of Frank and Daisy Troegel.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Daisy Troegel, her brother, Louis Troegel and her sister, Barbara Reynolds, and her eldest son, Wayne Douglas. She is survived by her sons, Steve Douglas and wife, Sharon, Ron Douglas and wife, Kara and daughter in law, Lea Douglas, wife of Wayne Douglas. She has 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Inez outlived many of her family members, who we all remember fondly. Her eyes would light up when recalling memories of her childhood and older siblings, Louis “Brother” and her sister, Barbara. She graduated from Byrd High School, where she was a member of the band.

She met her husband, James Preston Douglas Jr., “Doug”, on a blind date, after which they were married in 1950 and spent many years moving, due to Doug’s career in the Air Force. They settled in Austin during the 60’s, after Doug retired. Family was Inez’s greatest love and she enjoyed every minute of being a mother to her 3 son’s and a wife to Doug.

Her life as a mother and wife provided many entertaining stories. Inez lost her loving husband in 1972 to cancer. Inez took on the challenges of starting a career with the State of Texas – Human Services and raising her 2 sons, Steve and Ron, who were still at home.

This was one of many challenges she would endure and conquer over her life of 90 years. Working for the State of Texas as an administrator, became difficult, when she was diagnosed with MS in the late 70’s. That didn’t stop Inez.

She retired at the age of 63 and enjoyed traveling with her dear longtime friend, Loreine Smith. Inez captured these adventures in her many photo albums. She was a member of the Zilker Garden Club, where she served in various roles and enjoyed friendships, with those who shared her love of gardening.

Her yard was her oasis, where she enjoyed many days under the pecan tree, complaining about the squirrels taking all of her pecans. She looked forward to family gatherings throughout the year, and Christmas was her favorite holiday. Inez was a person of little stature, but she filled a room with her “Cajun” spice, humor and joy.

She lived on Lansing Dr. for more than 55 years, surrounded with many wonderful neighbors, who shared their friendship, and supported her throughout the years. Hospice Austin provided the care and support she needed, as her health declined. A special thanks to Valerie Sims, who was her nurse.

Her family will miss her love and laughter, along with the gentle ribbing that spread throughout our gatherings. We are thankful for the many memories we shared with her. The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home with a Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 P.M. A Mass of Celebration will be at 9:30 A.M., Thursday, September 27, 2018 at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church, 126 W. Oltorf St. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
