Obituary for Raymond L. Lott Raymond Lloyd Lott passed away peacefully on September 17, 2018. Ray is survived by Lenore, his wife of 67 years, daughter Mary-Alayne Hughes and husband Bob of Champaign, IL. , son Tom Lott and wife Bethany of Dripping Springs, TX.

, daughter Carolyn Miller and husband Morgan of Cedar Park, TX. , daughter Kathy Pierson and husband Richard of Bella Vista, AK. , daughter Lee Ann LaBorde and husband Sandy of Austin, TX.

, sister Lee Solem of Traverse City, MI. , 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by parents Charles and Virginia Lott, daughter Ginny Huff and grandson Colton LaBorde.

Ray was born in East Lansing, MI on December 3, 1927. He spent his early school years in Williamston, MI, and high school in East Lansing. He would often recollect that it was the same high school attended by Magic Johnson, he just beat him there by 45 years.

Ray joined the army and served in the infantry after graduating high school in 1947 and then re-enlisted in the Air Force a year and a half later where he retired after 20 years. He is a World War II vet having served in the occupation forces in Japan and the Berlin Airlift in Germany at the close of the war. He married the love of his life in 1951 and they started a family two years later.

In the early 1960s he showed an aptitude for a new skill called computer programming. He jumped at the chance for formal training and then used it as a springboard to his next career. He retired from the Air Force in 1967 and spent the next several years in computer programming at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, IL.

In January 1970 he accepted a job with the Texas Education Agency managing the computer department and the family moved to Austin. He earned a BA in business management from St. Edwards University in Austin in 1973 and retired from TEA in 1988. His first passion was sailing.

He and Lenore started sailing in the mid-1970s and continued for another 40 years. They owned several sailboats along the way and were members of the Lake Travis Cruising Association and the Austin Yacht Club, where he is a past commodore. In later years they moved their sailboat to Northport, MI where they spent the summer months sailing on the great lakes and spending time with family and friends.

His second passion was poker. He joined a Monday night poker group at AYC that started in the 1980s and is still going today. He had to drop out recently due to mobility issues but never stopped telling stories about that group or the many fun times he had with them.

Ray was a remarkable husband, father and friend. He will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and an unwavering positive attitude. Above all, he loved being with family and friends and always counted those relationships among his greatest blessings.
