Obituary for Irene A. Gaccione (Sposato) Irene A. (Sposato) Gaccione, 89, of East Avenue, Westerly, passed away at Royal Westerly on Tuesday, January 1, 2019. She was the wife of the late Michael A. Gaccione, Jr. who predeceased her on December 1, 2005. Irene worked in the school lunch program for the state of Rhode Island and was a devoted communicant of St. Pius X Church.
She was also a member of the Calabrese Women’s Auxiliary and enjoyed lending a helping hand to anyone that needed assistance. She is survived by three children, Laura G. (Joseph) Tremblay of Claysburg, PA, and Sandra M. (Bruce) Liguori and Michael A. Gaccione, III, all of Westerly; and two sisters, Felice Scialabba and Susie Greene, both of Westerly. She will also be dearly missed by her five grandchildren, Jason, Nicholas (Maureen) and Kevin Liguori and Adam and Aaron (Mallory) Tremblay; four great grandchildren, Nicholas and Michael Liguori, and Asley and Jennifer Tremblay; a sister-in-law “Rollie” Sposato; and several nieces and nephews.
Irene was predeceased by five sisters, Minnie Ballato, Julia Parise, Angie Sposato, Marian Santaniello, Josephine Terranova; and two brothers, John and Carl Sposato. A special thanks from Irene’s family goes to the staff of Royal Westerly and Beacon Hospice for all of their excellent care. Visiting hours will be held on Friday from 4-7p.m. at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019 at St. Pius X Church, 44 Elm Street, Westerly. There is no procession from the funeral home to church.
