OBITUARY Isabelle K. Isham June 4, 1928 – October 11, 2018 Isabelle (Kittredge) Isham, 90 YARMOUTH PORT, MA- Isabelle K. Isham, aged 90, passed away peacefully on October 11th, 2018 at her home on Cape Cod. This was the conclusion of over five years battling with Alzheimer’s disease. Her son, Hank was able to comfort her as she took her last breaths.

She was the beloved wife of the late Harold K. Isham, Sr They were married for 52 years. Isabelle was born in Hartford, CT on June 4th, 1928 to Ida and Robert Kittredge.

She was the first of three girls. They lived on Coleman Rd. , in Wethersfield, CT and she graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1947.

As a child, she lived through the Great Depression. Isabelle and her family spent many summers enjoying Cape Cod, staying in a small cottage on Samoset Rd. in Eastham.

They were fond of many days and nights spent at First Encounter Beach. The family summered at the cottage until the late 1960’s. As a young woman, Isabelle worked at the Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, CT.

In the late 1950’s, she became one of the first female real estate brokers in Connecticut and began working at the Paul B. Isham Real Estate Company in Newington, CT. She was one lady in an office with 12 men. One of those men was Harold K. Isham, and Hal and Isabelle got married in 1958.

They moved to Newington, CT in 1961, living there until they moved to the Cape in 1986. The Ishams enjoyed working part time in real estate and Isabelle continued this into her 80s. She supported both of her sons in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, assisting at many events.

Isabelle loved music, often singing and playing both the piano and organ. She was once the director of the youth and adult handbell choirs at Newington Congregational Church. Her husband was a railroad historian and enthusiast.

Isabelle and Harold shared this interest by going to railroad shows and excursions. They especially appreciated the friends they met while selling RR items for over 22 years at the Big E railroad show every February in Amherst, MA. Isabelle and Hal loved camping and visited almost all the states and parts of Canada.

They were members of the Good Sam Club and the National Hikers and Campers Association. They were even able to visit friends and family in England and Europe. She also liked attending meetings of the Red Hat Society.

Isabelle made innumerable friends everywhere she went and always had a story to tell. Isabelle is survived by her two sons, Jay Birden and Hank Isham, three step daughters and six step grandchildren. She leaves two grandchildren, Erik Birden and Jesse Birden, seven nieces and nephews and many cousins.

She was the sister of Roberta Hemmann and the late Ruth Fritzell. She also had many friends who brought vivacity and love into her life. All those who knew her are encouraged to share in her family’s love for Isabelle by attending the wake and services at the church.

Visitation will be on Saturday, October 27th, 2018 from 11am to 1pm at Doane Beal and Ames Funeral Home at 729 Route 134, South Dennis, MA 02660. The funeral service will be at Cape Cod Covenant Church, 11 Satucket Rd, Brewster, MA 02631 at 2pm. Isabelle’s family would like to thank the nurses, aids and supervisors at Hope Hospice, VNA Hospice and Bayada Health Care who helped her son make her comfortable for over three years of being on hospice.
