Ivan James Canavan, age 88 passed away unexpectedly Friday, July 20, 2018 at his residence in Paw Paw, MI. Ivan was born September 29, 1929 in Three Rivers, MI, the son of James and Mildred (Weatherbee) Canavan. Ivan proudly served his country during the Koran War in the United States Army.

He was united in marriage to the former Anna Vroegindewey on January 28, 1955 in Indiana; she survives him. Ivan played high school football; he bowled, played softball and was a big Detroit Tigers fan. He enjoyed watching a large variety of sports.

Ivan is survived by his loving wife of 63 years; Anna, his children; Judith (Bill) Elsner, John (Donna) Canavan and Sandra (Bob) Ponicki, 5 grandchildren; Eric and Aaron Elsner, Keith and Susan Kucinich and Brandon Ponicki and 8 great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Ivan was preceded in death by 3 sisters and 1 brother. In keeping with Ivan’s wishes cremation has taken place and the family is planning a memorial service at a later date.
