Obituary for J. Douglas Trapp J. Douglas Trapp Evans, GA- John Douglas Trapp MD, 83, resident of Brandon Wilde, Evans GA, died Monday, January 07, 2019 after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. “Doug,” as he was called, was born April 30, 1935 in Tuscumbia AL, the oldest of four children to Walter Russell Trapp Sr., MD and Margaret Blackwood Trapp. He attended Deshler High School, played on the football team, and transferred to Culver Military Academy in Culver IN, graduating cum laude in 1953.
Doug graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1957, was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity, and graduated from Vanderbilt Medical School in 1961. He met Mercer McKee in the fall of 1957 when she transferred to Vanderbilt and they married in Jackson MS, June 1959. Doug completed Internship in General Surgery in 1962 and Residency in Urology in 1966.
He served two years with US Naval rank at the US Public Health Service Hospital on Staten Island, NY 1966-68. After completing his duty of service, he returned to Nashville and went into private practice of Urology from 1968-1986. Dr. Trapp, a board-certified urologist, was an active member of the Southeastern section of the American Urological Association.
As a pioneer in the treatment of Impotence, he established The Nashville Impotence Center. In 1993, he became the Medical Director of Osbon Medical Systems in Augusta GA. Doug was raised in the Methodist Church in Tuscumbia and he and Mercer were active members of West End United Methodist Church in Nashville from 1959-93 until moving to Augusta where they joined First Baptist Church.
An adventurous spirit, Doug lived life to the fullest as a life-master bridge player, quail hunter, field trial competitor, wine connoisseur, music lover, dancer and avid golfer. Doug loved his family and will be very missed and happily remembered by his wife Mercer, son Doug Trapp Jr (Billy), daughter Sutton Trapp Turner (Scott), grandchildren Lauren, Nathan, Hayden and Erin Turner, brother “Rusty” Trapp (Gail), sister Peggy Trapp Jenkins (Bob, preceded in death), sister Susan Trapp McCamy, preceded in death (Don), and nieces and nephews Wilson and Bonnie Jenkins, Margaret and Darrin Rohr, Will and Julie Trapp, Sarah Trapp, John and Chrissy Trapp, Kate Salchert, Jen and Steve Pierce, Liz and Ryan Thrash, Jim and Debbie McKee and Anne McKee. The family wishes to thank the Nurses, CNAs and staff of the Pavilion at Brandon Wilde, along with the nurses from Alliance Hospice, with a special acknowledgement to both Susan Osborn and Sandra Whiting who took care of Dr. Trapp with grace, love, joy and fun.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Storey Chapel, First Baptist Church, 3500 Walton Way Ext, Augusta, GA 30909, the Dr. Timothy Owings officiating. Family will receive visitors at a reception following the service. A family graveside service and burial will be held Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at Oakwood Cemetery in Tuscumbia, AL.
