November 19, 1926-May 18, 2018. Ernest was the son of the late L. Ernest Du Bois and Evelyn Eckel Du Bois and brother of the late Carolyn Du Bois Claytor. He is survived by his brother, Leon J. Du Bois; sister and brother-in-law, Ann Du Bois Smith and Ivin L. Smith; nieces, Adrienne E. and Erica R. Smith, Ana Elizabeth Claytor; nephew, David W. Claytor; great-nieces, Akilah Crossdale, Kamaria Marden; great-nephews, Joseph and Nahshon Marden; and cousin, Leonore A. Dey.

Ernest attended the Rochester Public Schools and earned his bachelor and master’s degrees at the University of Rochester. He was a veteran secondary school teacher with the Rochester City School District, an officer at the East End Branch of Lincoln Rochester Trust Company, and an assistant at the University of Rochester Library. Ernest participated in numerous organizations at both the local and state level.

He served on many boards of directors: PTA, Girl Scouts of Genesee Valley, United Nations Assoc. of Rochester, Children’s Memorial Scholarship Fund, Russian-American Exchanges, Retired Teachers Organization and League of Women Voters. He was a member of Emanuel Covenant Church and Asbury First United Methodist Church.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Asbury First United Methodist Church. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to Doctors Without Borders, 333 7th Ave. , New York, NY 10001 or to the Memorial Fund at Asbury First United Methodist Church.
