Obituary of Joan Neefe ROCHESTER – Joan was born March 14, 1934. She peacefully departed this life on June 25, 2018 at the age of 84, surrounded by the love of her family. She is survived by her beloved children, Paul (Kathy) Neefe, Debbie Neefe Young & Kim (Kevin) Murray; grandchildren, Tara (Lloyd) Wilson, Kate Murray, Courtney (Charles) Perry, Stephanie (fiancé Kurt Stodolka) Neefe; great-grandchildren, Lloyd Jr., Ashton & Savannah Wilson; sister Jean Whiteford; several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Joan grew up in the 10th Ward, she attended Sacred Heart Academy, Grade School and was a graduate of John Marshall High School. The Brickler family had operated the Stutson Street/O’Rourke Bridge for over three generations. Joan was it’s first female lift bridge operator.

Most of her family lived in the Charlotte neighborhood, this and her work began her lifelong love of Charlotte Beach. In later years she resided at Edna Tina Wilson Living Center where she enjoyed socializing & crafting. Special thanks to all the wonderful caregivers at Edna Tina Wilson Living Center for their incredible kindness and care give to Joan.

Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 29th, 10 AM at Holy Cross Church, 4492 Lake Ave. , immediately followed by her burial in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to, Charlotte-Genesee Lighthouse Historical Society, 70 Lighthouse St., Rochester NY 14612 in her memory.
