Jesse Woodard “J.W.” Hooks, 78, passed away on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at UNC Chatham Hospital in Siler City. J.W. was born in Wayne County on September 23, 1940 to the late Obie Phillip Hooks and Gladys Radford Hooks. He had worked with BB&T in Goldsboro and later retired as an insurance underwriter.

J.W. was a charter member of the Sunrise Kiwanis Club. He will always be remembered as a loyal man of faith and for the love and respect he had for everyone who touched his life. The best of J.W. will live on in each of us.

A service to celebrate J.W.’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 in First Baptist Church, where he was a long-time member. Rev. Dr. Glenn Phillips and Rev.

Scott Thrailkill will officiate. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Fremont. J.W. is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elsie R. Hooks; children, Angelia Hooks and Jesse Hooks II and wife Wendy; grandchildren, Carly Hooks and Edie Rikard and husband Alex; and a special nephew, Jay Edmundson and wife Marlene.

He is also survived by his special k-9 friend, Lucky. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 11, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his memory to First Baptist Church, 125 S. John Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530.
