Jack Emerson Chappelear was born May 5, 1962 in Houston Texas. He expired on January 5, 2019 around noon at his home in Jersey City, New Jersey from cardiac arrest. Preceded in death by his father John Emerson Chappelear, he is survived by his mother, Patsy S. Chappelear of Houston, TX; his sisters, June Elizabeth and her husband Robert Frank Keller of Houston, Janice Elaine Chappelear of Houston, Juliet Eve and her husband Mark Markovich of Houston; his adored six nephews, three nieces, two grand nephews, three grand nieces; his cousins Rena Jean Nicks Bresser of Colorado Springs, CO, and Debra Kay Stallings Williams of San Antonio, TX; Sonya Dargis Chappelear of Sharpsburg, MD, James Michael Sobieski of Branchburg, NJ; and his best friend George Randolph Cook of Richmond, TX.

Jack grew up in Houston and was a graduate of Bellaire High School. Jack was awarded his Bachelor of Science from University of Houston in 1985 and Master of Computer Science from Rice University in 1988. As a student Jack began his career as a Unix system administrator and networking.

In 1984, he started working at University of Houston in the Biochemistry and Physics departments, working with Dr. George Fox, amongst others, at the University of Houston Institute for Molecular Biology cataloging the human genome. He also worked in the Physics department researching chaos theory. From 1991 to 1993 he worked as a software developer and Unix systems administrator.

In 1993 he joined Paranet (later acquired by Sprint) working as a network engineer and systems administrator until April of 1999. In 1999 he joined Fourth Millennium Technologies and worked in the developing field of computer science relational databases, parallel processing and clustered systems. He was with FMT through 2012 spending most of this time on contract with Goldman Sachs working on Equities Sales, Margin Technologies and Global Credit Risk models.

Throughout his time at Paranet and FMT, he was a consultant working with many different customers on complex assignments. Some of his clients included Home Depot, Texaco, Exxon, Baylor College of Medicine, University of Houston, Met Life, Fingerhut among others. In the fall of 2012 he joined Goldman Sachs as an employee.

In June, 2015, Jack moved to Blackstone Innovations, then RBG Capital Markets in Oct 2016. In March 2018 he joined Brightfield Strategies. Personal interests included role play gaming.

He was a Dungeon and Dragons fanatic back when it was all paper and pencil. He enjoyed many musical genres, theatre and visual art of all sorts. Jack was an aficionado of excellent Scotch, BBQ and Cuban cigars.

In recent years he discovered a love of cooking. He shared the results of his efforts with friends and co-workers. Jack was an avid cat enthusiast from childhood.

He rescued numerous felines over the years and In Jersey City he supported a feral colony. So please burn some meat, sip some Scotch, and smoke a cigar in his honor! Jack requested that memorial gifts be designated to the George R. Brown School of Engineering at Rice University.
