Life Story for Jack Gomes Jr. Jack Booth Gomes Jr., 70, died peacefully at home in Vista, CA, June 21, 2018 with his loving wife at his side. Jack was born September 5, 1947 in Oakland, CA to Jack Booth Gomes and Frances Clementson Gomes. Jack graduated from Castro Valley High School in 1965.

After graduation he went to work for ONE in Oakland and enrolled in Chabot Community College. He joined the Air Force in July 1968. He was stationed at Luke Air Force Base in Phoenix, AZ from 1969 until May of 1971 when he was deployed to South Korea.

He received an honorable discharge in June 1972. He returned to Chabot Community College and completed his AA degree in Data Processing in June 1974. In June of 1974 he began his career at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as a Computer Programming Technician in the administrative computer department.

With the introduction of the Univac Jack was tasked with coordinating the conversion from the GE 415‘s to the newer technology. His back disease forced him to take a disability leave in January 1990, and he retired in September 2002. Jack was smart, funny, and loving.

He could solve any problem. Jack was a “sit down” comedian. He would think of something funny, and a whole routine would just flow effortlessly from that thought.

He was an avid sports fan. The San Jose Sharks were his favorite team, but he also loved the Warriors, the Giants, and the A‘s. You could take the man out of the Bay Area, but you couldn’t take the Bay Area out of the man.

His passions were his wife and his doggies. He always had time to play with them, talk to them, and cuddle with them. Jack was predeceased by his parents Jack and Frances, his sister Deanna Bliss, and his sons Brian and Scott.

He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Mary and his stepdaughters Karen Homer (Mark), and Laura Zeledon (Jorge), and his beloved dogs Sukoshi, Maddie, Pooh and Shortcake. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday July 3, 2018 at the San Joaquin National Cemetery, 32053 W. McCabe Road, Santa Nella, CA, with a reception to follow. Arrangements are being handled by East County Mortuary, in El Cajon, CA.

In lieu of flowers he would have appreciated contributions to Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the ASPCA.
