Edward Barrett, October 16, 1957 — December 14, 2018

Obituary for Edward Barrett Edward Padraic Barrett was born to Edward and Dorothy Barrett on October 16, 1957 in San Diego, California. Ed attended El Cajon Valley High School and graduated in 1975. While in high school Ed was active in Future Farmers of America and excelled in basketball.

From there Ed attended Grossmont College and became eager to pursue a career where he could work for himself because he had a lot to give. Ed got his contractors license and began building. In 1992 Ed married Carol Wright-Barrett and was later blessed with two children Jack Edward Padraic Barrett and Kelly Lynn Barrett.

Ed loved his family, friends, and neighbors and would help anyone in need. Ed loved to work and has told many close to him that if you do what you love you’ll never work a day in your life. Ed found his calling as he would say he never did work a day in his life, even if his body told him otherwise.

Those that knew him or knew of the legend would tell you he was the hardest working man they have ever met. As Ed’s father preached to him at a young age, “If you’re going to give, give until it hurts”. Ed was a cowboy, rancher, and farmer at heart.

Every year he would plant a community garden and enjoyed sharing and providing vegetables to friends and family. He also raised cattle and shared it with family and friends. Ed’s dream was to run a cattle ranch and avocado orchard with his son someday.

Jack plans on seeing that through for Ed. We lost a great man but he left his mark on this world doing what he loved. He will be sorely missed by all.

Ed is survived by Carol Barrett, son Jack, daughter Kelly, six siblings, Sharon, Terry, Sean, Becky, Brian, and Margaret. As well as fifteen nieces and nephews, and ten great nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother and father and eldest brother Timothy.

Services will be held Friday, December 21, 2018 at 10:30am at St. Kieran Catholic Church located at 1510 Greenfield Dr, El Cajon.
