James’ Obituary James A. Bernica, 65, of Topeka, KS died Thursday, March 28, 2019 at the House at Midland Care. He was born March 10, 1954 the son of John and Ann (Galas) Bernica. Jim worked for the State of Kansas Department of Transportation.

He is survived by seven siblings, Rita (Len) Higgins of Omaha, NE, Phyllis “Irene” (Bill) Weishar of Leawood, KS, Rosemary (Hank) Stiltner of Abingdon, VA, Helen (Charlie) Sullivan of Atlanta, GA, Paul (Shirley) Bernica of Topeka, KS, Ed (Colette) Bernica of Kansas City, KS, Ken (MaryAnn) Bernica of Plano, TX, a sister-in-law, Evelyn Bernica of Topeka, KS, and a brother-in-law, Walt Mullaney of Virginia, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anne Bernica, a sister Jane Mullaney, two brothers, Bob Bernica and John “Bud” Bernica. Jim will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Monday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where his family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Midland Care Hospice sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
