James William “Bud” Hicks, 87, died Friday, December 14, 2018, at his residence after an illness. Mr. Hicks was born on August 10, 1931 in Hyman, SC, son of the late Boyd Lexton Hicks and Effie Alice Powell Hicks. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, attended of Camp Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church, a retired farmer and retired after 29 years from Delta Mills.

Surviving include his children, Linda (Don) Nettles of Scranton, Jerry (Patty) Hicks of Florence, Joanne (Arnold) Fennel of Johnsonville, Vivian (James Matthews) Hicks of Coward and Joseph “Sam” Hicks of Scranton; sister, Sue (Frank) Bailey of Scranton; number of grandchildren; great grandchildren and great-great grandchild. Mr. Hicks was preceded in death by a son, James L. “Jamie” Hicks; grandson, Chris Connell; siblings, Bertie Powell, Jessie Lou Creel, Billy Hicks, Jack Hicks and Toby Hicks; and mother of his children, Harriett Oakley Hicks. Funeral services will be 3:00 PM, Monday, December 17, 2018, at Friendfield Pentecostal Holiness Church, Scranton, SC.

Burial, with Military Honors, will follow at Friendfield Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery, Scranton, SC. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 PM, Monday, December 17, 2018, at Friendfield Pentecostal Holiness Church, Scranton, SC and other times at the home of his daughter, Linda (Don) Nettles, 1439 South Friendfield Road, Scranton, SC 29591. Memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice, PO Box 100551, Florence, SC 29501.
