James “Jim” Douglas Reid died at home on April 8, 2018, after a long and bravely fought battle with multiple sclerosis. Jim was born in Phoenix, Arizona on October 2, 1945 to Donald and Betty (Shinkle) Reid. After attending high school in Idaho and California, he served in the United States Air Force as an instructor.

He then moved to Seattle, where he graduated from the electrical engineering program at the University of Washington. Jim was one of the first employees at Microsoft, and, later,… Read More » worked several decades as an engineer and manager for the Boeing Company. He enjoyed fishing, sailing, and home projects.

Jim moved to Kent after meeting Margaret Ann Syre, and they married on January 17, 1980. He is survived by Margaret and their two sons, Daniel (Christina) and Matthew (Robin); grandchildren Dexter and Jackson; siblings Judy, Carol, and Norm; god-daughters Luu and Chau Phan; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Jim will be honored at a memorial service at Tahoma National Cemetery on Thursday, April 19 at 1:00pm.

A celebration of life will follow at his home in Kent.
